Roxul insulation is easy to cut and install. Its unique stone wool composition, density, and friction-fit batts help you or your contractor prevent any gaps that can result in sound getting from one room to another. Roxul Safe’n'Sound does not require the use of a vapor barrier. It’s available for wood and steel studs, and in widths for 16″ and 24″ on center stud spacing. For increased sound reduction, ask your building supply retailer or contractor about the use of resilient channels on wood studs before installing drywall.
The Difference Between PVC, Aluminum and
The Difference Between PVC, Aluminum and Stainless Steel Fittings
There are a lot of pipe fittings that can be used, most popular of which are the PVC fitting, aluminum fitting and the stainless steel fitting. These pipe fittings are efficient and durable, however, since they are made from different materials, they have their own distinct characteristics.
PVC is an acronym for Polyvinyl Chloride. It is a hard polymer that has a high resistance to chemical and ultraviolet rays but has a relatively low capability to withstand heat.
PVC fittings are used for plumbing and since the material is nontoxic and does not emit any harmful substances. Since this type of pipe fitting is highly resistant to chemicals effects, it is widely used in various chemical industries. It is the most commonly used fitting and the most affordable.
Aluminum pipe fittings offer greater protection than the PVC fittings. They are commonly used in commercial, exterior or high traffic areas.
Stainless steel fitting are the most protective type of pipe fitting, however, it is also the most expensive. They are most ideal to be used for water pipes because they are rust resistant. Stainless Steel Fittings are most commonly used for industrial applications.
What are the maximum or minimum temperat
What are the maximum or minimum temperatures that Rubber Pipe Insulation can take? Is there an R-value for Rubber Pipe Insulation, and if so what is the r-value and if not, why doesn’t it? Lastly, why is our Rubber Pipe Insulation all self-sealing? The maximum temperature for Aerocel Rubber Pipe SSPT Insulation is 257 degrees Fahrenheit and the minimum temperature is 297 degrees Fahrenheit below zero or -297 F. Aerocel is designed for installation above and below ground, indoors and outdoors. No protective finish is required. Aerocel does lose flexibility at 70 degrees below zero Fahrenheit; however this does not affect the insulating properties of the material. Aerocel-SSPT Pipe Insulation is used to retard heat gain or loss, and to control condensation formation on cold-water plumbing, chilled water, and refrigeration lines. The material also efficiently reduces heat flow on hot water plumbing, liquid heating and dual temperature piping systems. The unique cell structure of Aerocel® EPDM Insulation effectively retards the flow of moisture vapor. Aerocel is considered a low transmittance vapor retarder. In normal service conditions, Aerocel requires no supplemental vapor retarder protection. When used in extremely low-temperature or extremely highhumidity conditions, an additional vapor barrier maybe required. At 75 degrees Fahrenheit the K Factor is equivalent to 0.245 and the R-Factor is 4. With a .25 K Factor, Aerocel offers the best insulation value for closed-cell elastomeric insulation. Aerocel Sheet and Tube insulations meet the energy code requirements of International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and ASHRAE for R-4 for Refrigeration Piping at 1” wall thickness. Thermal Conductivity Mean Temp -4 Fahrenheit 32 Fahrenheit 75 Fahrenheit 90 Fahrenheit K-Value 0.22 0.23 0.245 0.25 IDC has standardized our inventory with self sealing lap due to the fact that most rubber pipe insulation is used for below ambient temperatures which would require a good sealing system. In addition, it allows for ease of installation. Self-Seal with Protape (SSPT) affords the most secure self-seal, dual-tape closure available. This helps avoids call-backs or failures and also improves the effectiveness of maintaining its seal in harsh conditions. The tightly formed, closed-cell structure of Aerocel-SSPT® Tube Insulation makes it an efficient insulation, providing superior insulating capacity to many materials, including other elastomeric insulations. IDC does have access to rubber pipe insulation without self-sealing however these are considered non-stock, special order items and have minimum order quantities and have significant lead times. For more information regarding this type of rubber pipe insulation, please contact IDC and talk to one of our knowledgeable sales staff for more info.
When do you use rubber pipe insulation a
When do you use rubber pipe insulation as opposed to fiberglass pipe insulation? If so, how do you measure rubber pipe insulation and what is the best way to install it?
Rubber pipe insulation is used to retard heat gain and control condensation drip from cold-water plumbing, chilled water, and refrigeration lines. Aerocel-SSPT® Tube Insulation is designed for insulating warm or cold piping, duct, or equipment. It also efficiently reduces heat flow for hot water plumbing, liquid heating and dual temperature piping. Aerocel sheet is used to insulate large outside diameter pipes, chillers, vessels, and tanks, and can be used as a duct line or duct wrap. The recommended temperature usage range for Aerocel Insulation is -297 degrees Fahrenheit to 257 degrees Fahrenheit.
The tightly formed, closed-cell structure of Aerocel-SSPT® Tube Insulation makes it an efficient insulation, providing superior insulating capacity to many materials, including other elastomeric insulations.
You measure rubber pipe insulation just like you do fiberglass pipe insulation, by using pipe calipers. We also sell pipe calipers as well, http://www.idccorp.com/index~path~product~part~4992~process~search~ds~dept~text~pipe%20calipers however after using the pipe calipers; the difference is you will need a pipe conversion chart such as these for ½ inch thickness: ww.idccorp.com/webimages/aeroflex_conversion_0613.jpg , we can get other thicknesses for pipe sizes but we mainly stock ½ inch thick. Please call us for pricing and availability for other thicknesses at 1-800-327-8432.
Application
Aerocel- SSPT – utilizes a unique 2 step sealing system to insure a permanent seal. Step 1 is an acrylic adhesive seam seal. Step 2 is an EPDM flap that utilizes a cellular fusion adhesive (i.e. rubber adhesive). This adhesive chemistry bonds the EPDM to the tube ensuring a seal for the life of the system. Aerosel-SSPT is available in 3/8”, ½”, ¾” and 1” wall thicknesses and ID’s from 3/8” ID through 4” IPS. Aerocel is designed for installation above and below ground, indoors and outdoors. No protective finish is required.
Butt joints and other seams are to be sealed with contact adhesive. Fittings can be fabricated from straight tubing or sheet. Larger diameter, curved, or flat surfaces can be insulated by adhering properly fabricated sheet sections to them. Consult the Aeroflex Installation Handbook for more complete installation details and instructions.
In addition to the specifications listed, Aerocel also conforms to the following: ASTM C 543, NY City MEA #171-04-M, City of LA RR-8413, UL 181 Section 12 Mold Growth/Humidity, ASTM G 21 Fungal Resistance Test,
